Two breeds, raised in one family home in Lancaster County

We raise two breeds and no others: the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Maltese. We have kept to those two since 2005, with one or two litters at a time, because knowing a breed well matters more than offering a long list.

Cavaliers are the larger of the two at roughly 13 to 18 pounds and 12 to 13 inches tall. They shed moderately and want a daily walk, they train easily, and they get along with children, other dogs and cats. They suit a family that wants a dog in the middle of the room rather than at the edge of it.

The Maltese is much smaller, around 4 to 7 pounds. The coat grows rather than sheds, so the trade is regular brushing and a groomer every few months instead of hair on the sofa. They are bright and people-focused, and because they are genuinely delicate, time with young children should always be gentle and supervised.
